Hydrography is the science of measuring and description of the physical features of oceans, seas, coastal areas, lakes and rivers such as bottom depth, currents and waves, with the prediction of their change over the time, in other words it looks into the ocean to see what the sea floor looks like. It purpose is safety assurance of navigation and all other marine activities, including economic development, security and defense, scientific research, and environmental protection.

The Importance of Hydrography

In addition to supporting safe and efficient navigation of ships and produce navigation charts, nowadays hydrography are used in many applications:

• resource exploitation - fishing, minerals
• environmental protection and management
• maritime boundary delimitation
• national marine spatial data infrastructures

The program duration takes minimum of 4 semesters and the maximum duration is determined by the laws of the Iran's Science, Research and Technology ministry.
